A front splitter can change how the entire car is perceived. Its proportions establish the relationship between the bumper, the front wheels and the ground.
For the Avalanche Design Audi R8 front lip splitter, we wanted to give the front end more presence while keeping it connected to the original design.
The goal was a wider, more aggressive stance, with the surface refinement that belongs on an R8.
Giving the Front More Presence
The factory Audi R8 Gen 2 has a strong front graphic. Its grille and side intakes already give the car a distinct identity.
Our splitter builds on that foundation. It adds visual weight along the base of the bumper, emphasizing the width of the front end and giving the body a stronger connection to the ground.
That relationship matters when viewing the complete car. The splitter needs enough presence to change its character, with proportions that remain balanced against the bumper and wheels.
From the front, the emphasis is on width. From a front three quarter view, the depth of the form becomes more apparent, showing how the splitter extends the lower body.
Making the Surfaces Belong
The connection to the factory bumper is central to the design.
The splitter’s curvature and transitions need to work with the surfaces above it. A convincing overall shape depends on how those smaller relationships are resolved, especially where reflections move between adjoining forms.
We developed the surfaces in Autodesk Alias, working through the relationship between the visible exterior and the geometry required for fitment.
Our Class A surfacing process explains how curvature, continuity and reflections inform that development.
From Scan to Physical Fitment
Development began with a high resolution scan of the car. This provided a reference for the factory bumper, undertray and mounting locations.
The digital design was then evaluated through a 3D printed prototype fitted to the vehicle. Seeing the part on the car allowed us to assess the overall proportions alongside its physical relationship with the original bodywork.
The finished front lip follows that development process, bringing the intended form into a part designed around the factory interfaces.
Dry Carbon Construction
The splitter uses prepreg carbon fiber cured in an autoclave and weighs 3.16 lb, or 1.43 kg.
Dry carbon construction provides a lightweight, rigid part with an exposed carbon finish that makes its surface changes visible. The material supports the design while keeping the assembly light.
Designed Around the Factory Mounts
Developed for the 2016–2018 Audi R8 Gen 2, the splitter fits the V10 Base, V10 Plus and RWS models.
It attaches at the factory mounting locations without drilling, cutting or modifying the bumper. Additional mounting hardware is included, and professional installation is recommended.
The result is a more assertive front end, developed through proportion, surface work and physical fitment.
